Sending a Course in an E-mail or Other Message

The easiest way to send a course to someone via e-mail is to send the file the course is on as an attachment to a message, by using your e-mail application's "Attach File" menu item.

Unfortunately, this easiest method will not always work. Some e-mail systems can't handle attachments, or don't handle them well. Attachments are also unsupported in many web-based message boards, E-mail-based discussion groups, and the like. When it is impossible to send courses via an attachment, the alternative is to send the course in the body of a message, that is, so that text representing the course can be seen when looking at the message. If you are unsure as to whether the recipient of your message can receive attachments, you should send the course in the body of the message, since that method will always work.

To send a course in the body of a message:

  1. In course Designer 3, click on the background of a course to deselect all shapes.
  2. Use the "Edit / Copy" menu item to copy the course to the clipboard.
  3. Write your message in your e-mail application, or on the web form. When you are at the point in the message where you want the course description to appear, use your message editor's "Edit / Paste" menu item to copy the text description of the course from the clipboard.
The course description will begin with the line "Begin Course Designer", and end with the line "End Course Designer". Starting with Course Designer 3, most of the text description of the course will appear as unintelligible lines of letters and numbers, due to Course Designer 3's new compressed course description format. But the recipient of the message will be able to use Course Designer 3 to translate the jumble of letters and numbers back into a Course Designer course.
